CLAN Edinburgh
1-3 Canon Street, Edinburgh EH3 5HE

CLAN Edinburgh is a partnership project funded by the Scottish Executive and led by the City of Edinburgh Council to increase the number of people confident about using English and Maths in their everyday lives.

We aim to increase choice for learners. Some examples of new work are groups of young people preparing for the 'Passing the Driving Theory Test' and community groups working on 'Healthy Eating' projects.

We prioritise work with:
• people with limited initial education, particularly young adults, including 15-year olds no longer in school
• unemployed people and workers facing redundancy
• people with English as a Second or Additional language
• people who live in disadvantaged areas
• workers in low skill jobs or low incomes
• people with a health problem or disability affecting learning, speech, sight or hearing

Work with other agencies
Our project workers actively network to set up joint initiatives in settings where people already feel at home.

The Challenge Fund supports partnership bids to run innovative literacy projects. Any agencies can apply. Amounts vary: a small project might be awarded up to £5,000, but there is scope to £10,000 and some room for phased bids. There are take-up dates several times a year, and we can sometimes help identify potential partners. Please call Angus Whyte on 0131 270 6076 or Richard Terry on 0131 270 6071 if you’d like to discuss any proposal you have.
